The Sunshine Blogger Award!

Sunshine Blogger Award

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been really busy with work & recovering from a cold. As many of you know, I am a full time kindergarten teacher during the week. I was thrilled to see a new friend of mine, fellow Canadian, Ravlin of Earthly Mama, nominate me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. A million times thank you Ravlin, for such an incredible nomination, I am beyond thrilled! This is my first Blog Award Nomination & I am smiling ear-to-ear as I type this 🙂

Sunshine Blogger Award Q&A!

Explain the story behind the name of your blog.

Before creating Travelette, I had another blog named Graceful Wander. It was more of a “test” blog & I was not very active on it. So, when I decided I wanted to really get into the blogging world, it took me a really long time to come up with a name. I was sat at home thinking, what is a good name that will really captivate my niche audience, but that does not involve my name? And that’s when I thought of my blog name. A lot of Feminine French words end with “ette” so I put two & two together & made; Travelette.

What is your favourite memory of 2017?

I’d have to say my family trip to Maui, Hawaii. Not only was I able to visit such an incredible place, I got to experience it with those who I love dearly & had not seen in over 10 years. It was not only a time to celebrate milestones, but a reunion for us all. It was great and if you ever get the chance to go to Hawaii, please do! You will love it.

What are you most grateful for in your life?

I’d have to say my family. I have a great support system, who have always been there for me. They’ve pushed me & have always believed in me, even when I was at my lowest & didn’t even believe in myself. Because of them, especially my parents, I have been able to travel since the age for 18 months. Because of their endless support, I was able to move to Europe & experience life abroad. And I’d also like to add, that I am grateful for being a Dual Citizen, that allows me to travel & experience life in both North America & Europe.

How do you find inspiration for your blog posts?

It’s pretty much a mixture of a lot of things. I write blog posts about things I personally want to know or read about. I also find inspiration when walking around a city, trying to come up with different ideas, especially when visiting someplace new.

Do you prefer to live in the city or countryside?

I grew up in the West Island of Montreal, which was considered the “suburb” but close enough to downtown Montreal. And now, I live in downtown Budapest. So I’d have to say that I’m more of a city girl, because that is all I’ve ever really known. But I don’t oppose to the countryside, in fact I do love some country music. But wherever I may end up later on in life, I’d prefer living in the city, or a suburb close enough to the city centre.

What is your favourite post you’ve written?

I enjoy writing all of my posts, but my favourite one would probably have to be my Top 5 Maui Destinations post. I wrote this post, a few months after my trip, so it was fun looking back & thinking about all the wonderful things I got to experience when I was there.

Name 3 places you would love to travel to.

  • Fiji
  • Australia
  • Curaçao

All of which are warm countries! They are definitely on my list & I can’t wait to visit one of these days!

A blog post that you are most proud of.

It would probably have to be my “How to get to Primark in Vienna” post. It is definitely my most viewed & it shows up on the first search page on Google, which is awesome! When I was researching how to get Primark, I couldn’t find any accurate or up-to-date directions. So I’m hoping this blog post, helped others find their way!

Where did you go on your first trip and how old were you?

I was 18 months old when my parents took me on my first trip to the Philippines. Back in the day, it took over 26 hours to get to Manila from Montreal. Crazy, right? They were brave taking me across the World at that age, or I was just a good baby, haha!

What is the most adventurous thing you’ve done?

Moving to Europe, without any knowledge on what I was going to do, how long I was going to stay for & going into the unknown. Moving to Hungary was full of challenges & of course there still are many that I face every single day. However, I stepped out of my comfort zone & it allowed me to experience great things, meet incredible people & gain dual citizenship. All of which I am thankful for!

congratulations on the nomination:) traveling and living in new places is such a great (and character building) experience, enjoy every second of it. The Primark post made me smile, I think the most asked question in traveling and touristy FB groups is – Is there a Primark there and where is it – so that makes a LOT of sense:)

The Oxfam shop in Hammersmith told me that they had “really caught a cold” when Primark opened opposite them.
